Service
SEO and GEO: get found in search and cited by AI
Search now has two front doors. One is the results page people have used for twenty years. The other is an assistant that reads the web and answers in a paragraph, naming a handful of sources. We work on both, because the same buyer uses both in the same week.
What this service is, in plain terms
GEO stands for generative engine optimization: making your business the source an AI assistant reaches for when someone asks it a question you can answer. It is not a separate discipline bolted onto SEO. It is the same fundamentals — clear topical coverage, factual precision, clean structure, corroboration elsewhere on the web — applied with the knowledge that the reader might be a language model summarizing for a human who never sees your page.
The practical difference is specificity. Classic SEO rewards a page that covers a topic. Answer engines quote sentences. A page that says 'we serve the Tri-Cities and typically respond within one business day' is quotable. A page that says 'we pride ourselves on outstanding service' is not, and no amount of keyword density fixes it.
For a local service business the highest-value work is usually the least glamorous: making sure your name, address and phone match everywhere, that each service has its own page targeting one phrase, that your Google Business Profile is complete and active, and that the site is fast and crawlable. We do that before anything ambitious.
The situation
What usually brings people to this page
One page is trying to rank for everything
The services page lists nine offerings in nine paragraphs. Google cannot tell what it is about, so it ranks it for nothing specific, and neither can an assistant deciding which source answers a narrow question.
Two pages are fighting each other
A services page and a blog post both target the same phrase. Instead of one strong result you get two weak ones that trade positions, split their links, and confuse anyone trying to cite you.
You are invisible in the map pack
The three local results above everything else are driven by proximity, category accuracy, review velocity and profile completeness. A profile that has not been touched in two years does not compete, no matter how good the website is.
AI assistants describe you wrong or not at all
Ask ChatGPT or Google's AI Overview about your category in your city and your name does not appear, or appears with details that were true three years ago. Nothing on the open web states the current facts clearly enough to be picked up.
Scope
What you get
Everything below is included in a standard engagement. Anything outside it is quoted separately and named before work starts.
Technical audit and fix list
Crawl, index coverage, speed on real devices, mobile usability, broken internal links, redirect chains, duplicate titles. We produce the list and then actually fix it rather than emailing you a PDF.
Keyword and topical map
One primary keyword per URL, mapped by intent and stage, with an explicit rule against two pages targeting the same phrase. This document governs everything published afterwards.
On-page optimization across the site
Titles, meta descriptions, heading hierarchy, internal links and copy edits so each page unambiguously covers one thing and links to its logical neighbors.
Structured data
Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, BreadcrumbList and FAQPage markup, validated. This is how machines read your pages without guessing.
Answer-shaped content
Sections written as direct answers to real questions, with dates, numbers, service areas and constraints stated plainly, so an assistant can quote a sentence without inventing anything.
Local search and citations
Google Business Profile optimization, category selection, service and area coverage, and consistent name, address and phone across the directories that still matter.
AI visibility tracking
A monthly check of how the major assistants answer the ten questions that matter to your business, recorded over time so you can see movement rather than guess.
Monthly reporting that says what changed
Impressions, clicks, ranking movement, map pack position and conversions, with a short written note on what we did and what we are doing next.
How it runs
The process, start to finish
- 01
Baseline
Search Console and Analytics access, full crawl, competitor comparison, and a record of how assistants currently answer your key questions. Without a baseline every later claim is unverifiable.
Week 1 - 02
Fix the foundation
Technical errors, speed, structure and markup first. These are one-off costs that make every subsequent effort compound instead of leaking.
Weeks 2–4 - 03
Build topical coverage
Publish against the keyword map: service pages, then the questions buyers ask before they buy, then local pages where there is genuine local substance to write about.
Month 2 onward - 04
Measure, prune, extend
Monthly review of what moved. Pages that underperform get rewritten or merged rather than left to rot, and the map is extended into whatever the data shows is working.
Ongoing
Outcomes
What changes when this is working
Rankings for phrases with buying intent
We target what people search when they are ready to hire, not vanity head terms that bring traffic and no inquiries.
Map pack presence in your service area
Complete profile, correct categories, steady reviews and consistent citations are what move local visibility, and they are within your control.
Citations in AI answers
Clear factual pages with structured markup are what assistants quote. Being one of the three named sources for a question is a durable advantage.
A site that stops competing with itself
One page per intent means link equity and relevance concentrate instead of being split three ways.
Investment
How pricing works
SEO and GEO run as a monthly engagement with a heavier first phase. The first six to ten weeks are foundation work and cost more; after that the monthly figure reflects how much content is produced and how competitive the terms are.
What moves the number
- How much technical debt exists. A site that needs a rebuild before it can rank changes the plan.
- Competition. Ranking in a market with three competitors is a different job from ranking against thirty with a decade of history.
- Content volume. Four substantial pages a month costs more than one, and moves faster.
- Number of locations and services. Each genuine service area needs its own page with real local substance.
- Whether you handle reviews and profile posting internally or want us to run it.
Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting a phrase nobody searches or is about to do something that gets you penalised.
Typical timelines
- Technical foundation and fixes
- 4–8 weeks
- First measurable ranking movement
- 3–4 months
- Compounding traffic and inquiry growth
- 6–12 months
SEO aims to rank a page in a list of results. GEO aims to have your business named and quoted inside an AI-generated answer. They share fundamentals — crawlability, topical clarity, factual precision, credibility — but GEO puts more weight on stating concrete facts in quotable sentences and on being corroborated by other sources.
Technical fixes can affect impressions within weeks. Meaningful ranking movement on commercial phrases usually starts around month three and compounds from there. Local map pack improvements from profile work are often the fastest visible win.
No. Six genuinely useful pages that answer questions buyers actually ask outperform fifty thin posts, and thin posts actively hurt by diluting your topical focus. We would rather publish twice a month and mean it.
No, and neither can anyone else. We can guarantee the work: the audit, the fixes, the content, the markup, the reporting. Anyone guaranteeing position is either lying or picking a phrase with no volume.
We keep a fixed list of the questions that matter to your business and run them through the major assistants on a monthly cadence, recording whether you are named and whether the details are accurate. It is a manual check, and it is the only honest one available today.
Yes, but earned ones. Local sponsorships, supplier and association listings, genuine press and being the source someone cites. We do not buy links, and we will not put your domain at risk to hit a monthly quota.
Yes. Local search work needs a real location, but technical SEO, content and GEO are location-independent and we deliver those for clients across the United States.
Related services
These are usually bought together, because they solve adjacent halves of the same problem.
- Website Design & DevelopmentMost business websites are brochures that happen to be online.
- Google Business ProfileFor a local service business, the three map results sitting above the normal search listings are the most valuable real estate on the internet.
- Paid AdvertisingAds are the fastest way to find out whether your offer works, and the fastest way to waste money if the page behind them does not convert.
